I am a bit confused as to the comment of an aquarium "stabilizing for a year to perform" in your article of tank stability. What exactly is considered performing? I have a FOWLR setup and don't understand how does a aquarium get properly established if you have to do periodic water changes and substrate vacuumings. Doesn't that remove a lot of the necessary bacteria required for the aquarium to sustain itself?

Thanks for the good analysis of Steve's problem.
I like your suggestion on "Review the tank’s regular maintenance schedule and husbandry practices".
It will be good to know how Steve eventually solved the issue with his Tank.
